Frequently Asked Questions

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is a holistic form of primary healthcare that goes beyond symptom suppression and bandaid solutions to aim to treat the root cause of disease. Naturopathic medicine utilizes evidence based and traditional forms of natural medicines such as vitamins and supplements, herbal formulas, and nutrition and lifestyle modifications. Treatments are always personalized as everyone experiences their condition differently.

Do you do direct billing?

No, sorry. You are responsible to pay the cost of your appointment at the time of your visit, and then submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

How do I pay for a virtual visit?

Upon booking a virtual appointment, you will be asked for your credit card information. Your credit card on file will be charged the full amount for the visit, including any lab tests we may order.

If you need to pay with a different card other than the one on file, please let me know and we can certainly accommodate this at the end of the appointment.

How often do we have appointments?

That depends. Most of the time it’s safe to expect to have 3-4 visits within the first few months of treatment to ensure things are going in the right direction and you are starting to feel better, and to give us the opportunity to tweak things should we need to or review updated lab results. After that our visits might be monthly, bimonthly, or a few times a year. If you are going through intense treatment i.e. fertility treatments, starting new medications, or similar, we might see each other more frequently. In terms of blood work, typically it is repeated annually, and sometimes within the first 3-6 months if we are doing more intensive treatment.

What happens during our appointments?

In our first visit, we will discuss your health concerns in detail and establish your goals. This is our opportunity to discuss your health history and current lifestyle; this is also an opportunity for you to share your story. We will also review any supplements you are taking, and I will review any previous lab results you have provided – even if you were told that your results were “normal”, I will assess things in far more detail. At the end of our visit, any further relevant lab testing will be discussed and you will be presented with some initial treatment strategies.  At the end of this visit, you’ll have a clear understanding of how we will work together to overcome your health challenges move towards reaching your health goals.

In our first follow up visit, your treatment recommendations and lab results will be discussed in detail, making sure you have a complete understanding of how we will move forward. Frequency of follow up visits depends on our treatment strategy, your progress towards your health goals, and what makes most sense for you.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Please ensure that you have thoroughly filled out the intake forms prior to your appointment. If you have any recent lab work that was completed by another provider, please email it to support@christinadegiuli.com 48 hours prior to your appointment.

Can you prescribe drugs?

Currently, I am able to prescribe desiccated thyroid and bioidentical hormones, which is most often progesterone for PCOS.

Do I have to get lab work done?

That depends. Lab testing is necesssary in many cases in order to do a proper diagnostic assessment and provide effective care. Similar to your family doctor, Naturopathic Doctors can run standard bloodwork. You may have already had some tests run by another member of your healthcare team…which is great! We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. However, in most cases, pieces of the puzzle are missing and we will opt to do our own investigations to provide a complete understanding of what is going on. The cost of initial lab work for new patients is most often in the range of $100-200.  More specialized functional medicine testing can also be performed including:

  • Comprehensive Hormone Testing (blood, urine or saliva)
  • Comprehensive Stool & Gut Health Analysis

Standard bloodwork and comprehensive tests may be eligible for coverage by your extended healthcare benefits – please check with your provider for details.

What if I'm still not sure?

No problem! That’s why I offer complimentary clarity calls. This is an opportunity for anyone who is considering working together to chat with me so that I can answer any questions that you may have, explain what the process of working together looks like, and give you a general overview of timelines needed to reach your goals.
